Ananthapura Temple Kumble Kasaragod

Ananthapura near Kasaragod, 45 kms from Mangalore is a lake temple. Though surrounded by barren land all around it is truely amazing to see a lake and temple in the middle. Ananthapura is the holy abode of Lord Ananthapadmanaabha (or Lord Vishnu). Interestingly Ananthapura is the only lake temple in Kerala state.Ananthapura Lake Temple, KasaragodIdols : Idols worshipped here is not made of metal or stone as in most of the temples in India. It is made of Kadusharkara Paaka(made of various herbs). In this way of making idols of Gods, in addition to the external organs, internal organs like heart, lungs, skeletal joints and nervous system are also are realized. Also, there is no Abhishekam for idols made of Kadusharkara Paaka.Reflection of the Ananthapura Temple,Kasaragod in the lakeVegetarian Crocodile : Most of you may find it hard to believe that temple is guarded by a vegetarian crocodile, which lives in the temple lake. Crocodile named ‘Babiya’, has been living in the temple lake for 63 years now. They say there lived one crocodile before the present one appeared. People used to get a glimpse of the crocodile when they called it. In 1945, that one was killed by a British officer. After a few days, the present crocodile appeared in the lake. But now, one hardly gets to see the crocodile. One can see the crocodile, when the priests offerprasadamnaivedyam to it in the morning.Lord Hanuman and GarudaHow to reach Ananthapura from Mangalore : Mangalore to Kumble (also known as Kumbla) – 40 km

Kasaragod , Malabar Coast Photos from 2012 Year End Trip

I had been to Kerala in December 2012. Here are some of the photos from the Malabar coast or shall I say our own west coast! :)

Valiyaparamba Backwaters ,Islands

It is one of the scenic backwater stretches in Kerala. Fed by four rivers and dotted with numerous little islands, Valiyaparamba is a favoured backwater destination that offers enchanting boat cruises to Valiyaparamba backwatersits visitors.Valiyaparamba is perhaps the most scenic backwater stretch in Kerala. Fed by four rivers and dotted with numerous little islands, Valiyaparamba is fast turning into a much favoured backwater resort that offers enchanting boat cruises. Valiyaparamba,a hinterland separated from the mainland, is a noted fishing centre in the district and is just an hour’s drive from Bekal – one of the most enchanting beaches of Kerala. The Bekal fort which stands on a headland that runs into the sea offers a spectacular view of the surroundings.
The sun light coming through the tall palm trees is weak. It is becoming yellowish. We are waiting for the darkness to come. In Kawwayi back waters, Janardanan’s boat is waiting for the evening. We are not at all tired even after spending the whole day in the surface of the back waters. We can see the Arabian ocean beyond the island, looking through the palm trees. The setting sun became red. The birds that had gone seeking for their preys have started returning to Valiaparamba. The storks started rattling on the palm trees. Parting the waves the water birds searched for a place to stay in the mangrove with their pairs. The dusk is becoming purplish.
Muhamad Kunhi is like that. If he likes you he won’t leave you. ‘After the dusk I will show you a mirracle in Valiyaparamba. After that you can decide whether to stay here for today or not.’ We couldn’t refuse Muhamad Kunhi’s invitation. This M.Sc Zoology fellow is a senior assistant in K.S.E.B. He is from the island, the host of Valiyaparamba.
10_53022_530In the visiting card which was printed instantly, there are two more degrees. We got down from the boat and sat in the waiting shed on the shore. This place is called Pandyala Sea shore. Kunhi prepared our seats by cleaning the parapet of the shelter with his hands. Near by there is a tea shop. We had black tea and biscuits from there. ‘If you had informed them about your arrival before hand, they would hace prepared every thing for you.’ Kunhi was not satisfied even after feeding us well. Kunhi is like that. If he likes you his affection will over flow.
We waited for the miracle that Kunhi told us about.. He pointed his finger towards the mountain far away from the shore on the east side. Ezhimala. The largest naval base in Asia. Ezhimala stands head high beyond the sea face where the Arabian oceaan allows Kawwayi lake to enter in to the Idanadu. Like an elephant pushing his trunk forward while standing in the water for a bath. Surroundings became darker. The rattling of the birds stopped. Ezhimala and Kawwayi lake got immersed in darkness. On the surface of the lake you can see the reflection of the moon . On the vallies of the mountain you can see lights like fire flies.
While looking at, the miracle opened up on Ezhimala. The fire flies on the valley slowly started to come up towards the peak of the hill. Ezhimala reflected in the Kawwayi lake like in a mirror. The mountain and the river became one. When the light from the light house spread, the lake and the river disappeared. Only the bright light. The Deepavali of Valiayaparamba. We were confused, whether to stay or not. Muhamad kunhi asked. Who can leave Valiyaparamba in this night of miracle?

Top station

00201_174906Top Station is tourist destination, where you can feel the clouds are flying very close to you. Wild slopes and dense forests surround it. Though there is no sufficient facility, the place is a tourist hub. The place falls along the border of the state of Tamil Nadu. Top Station is 32 km from Munnar. Frequent public buses operate between Munnar and Top Station and there are taxis too.
Top station is one among the top mountain in Western ghats and offers a panoramic view of the majestic Western Ghats and the valley of Theni district . During winter season the traveler should take woolen clothes even during daytime. The rush would be at its peak during April and May and during monsoon the place would be empty. But foreign tourists use to reach here to enjoy the rain even though the Tamil Nadu government had not made any attempt to raise the facilities for the tourists. There are only few tea and coffee shops. Many were seen selling plums, saber jelly and apples. The sale of drinking water bottles is high when foreign tourists come. There are less accommodation facilities too.
Many adventurous groups were seen trekking to Kodaikkanal though the path in dance forest. Native Manoharan is the main guide here, who is a person connected to adventurous world from the childhood. He is fortunate enough to have friends in India and aboard due to his great caliber. Manoharans guidance is must for all who opt for trekking in the forests and to enjoy the top station.
