Beach and Islands in Alappuzha

For ever shall we be in quest of the shores, that we may sing and be heard. But what of the wave that breaks where no ear shall hear? It is the unheard in us that nurses our deeper sense. Yet it is also the unheard which carves our soul to form and fashion our destiny. Looking at the everlasting waves of the sea intuits many thoughts, feelings and emotions in our mind and soul.
Alappuzha beach is one of the most vibrant spots in the district of Alappuzha. Its beautiful garden on the shore gives an exclusive sight and absolute relaxation. Imposing buildings of a colonial past overlook the shore. The pier, which extends into the sea is more than 140 years old and is a rare sight. Dense Palm groves at one end and an ancient towering light house at the other, Vijaya Park and Sea view park are all spectacular sights one should never miss. Boating Facility is available in both Parks.
Facilities at the Vijaya Beach Park: Boating, a children’s park with toy train and bicycles.
Timing-: Between 1500 – 2000 hours.

Pathiramanal

This is a small captivating island in the Vembanad Lake. Situated between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom, this island is the favourite spot for hundreds of rare migratory birds like the siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal from different parts of the world during different seasons.

Q S T and R Block Kayal

These regions are famous for farming over reclaimed land from the backwaters. The area is protected by dikes built all around and reminds visitors of the famous dikes of Netherlands. A cruise along the canals here is quite a memorable experience.

Mararikulam

If in your waking dream, when you are hushed and listening to your deeper self, your thoughts, like the waves of the sea, fall and flutter and garment all the sounds of your spaces with white silence, you will surely enjoy Mararikulam beach.
Situated on the coast south of Alappuzha,12 Kms. from Alappuzha, it houses a quiet beach and has an adjoining fishing village. Water sports and Ayurvedic treatments are the enjoyable and refreshing activities one can avail of.

Kumarakom

A Voyage north of Alappuzha takes you to the rich green, sleepy little village of Kumarakom on the Vembanad lake. This beautiful backwater holiday destination was “discovered” barely a decade ago. The lagoon here, with its spectacular view and fringed by coconut groves, has been featured in travel books all over the world. An enchanting picnic spot and a fast developing backwater tourism destination, Kumarakom provides boating , fishing and sight-seeing experiences that are truly exhilarating. An exclusive attraction of this much sought after backwater resort is the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary.
The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, spread over 14 acres of land, is an orthithologist’s paradise and a favorite haunt of migratory birds like the Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Water ducks, cuckoos are also regular visitors. A cruise along the Vembanad lake is the best way to view the bird life. Years ago, an Englishman Henry Baker had constructed his bungalow here in the typical western style architecture.
